Making Progress

Each day brings new challenges and new accomplishments for Mike. He is getting stronger and stronger but still has so far to go. He is participating in physical and occupational therapy during the day but it wears him out to complete those sessions. Yesterday, he walked to an outdoor patio and sat in the open air for about 30 minutes. It is the first he's been outdoors other than the ride here from Show Low on 3/30. He misses being outdoors. Hopefully soon he will be able to spend more time outside.

Mike has enjoyed visits with each of the boys since being here. Quentin was here last Sunday and John and Jacob have each been here a couple times. John stayed the night with Mike a couple days ago when I made a trip up to St. Johns.

The days are long and slow. I know the pace bothers him but he still has such a long road to travel to get back in good health. The slow pace lets his body heal at its own rate. Mike is nearly off meds now, well off many of the meds.

Your Prayers Are Needed

Mike (Scotty and Billie's son) has been terribly sick since being diagnosed wth gall bladder failure and pancreatitis on January 26th. His gall bladder was removed on January 28th. On March 7th he was hospitalized so he could receive powerful antibiotic treatments by IV to combat pancreatic necrosis, the pancreatic tissue rotting, or liquifying, due to infection. On March 9th, Mike was also diagnosed with MRSA, an aggressive infection which is resistant to antiobiotics - a super bug. Mike had surgery that same day to remove infected tissue and fluids from his abdomen and has been in ICU since then, sedated so his body can get much needed rest from the trauma of fighting these infections. He is on a respirator. It is a challenge, day by day, hour by hour, as medical professionals try to stay on top of fighting these infections, control his temperature, maintain nourishment, manage pain, remove fluids, and prevent injury or damage to his skin and other organs.

Your prayers are needed, there is power in prayer. Along with general prayers for a speedy recovery, please, at this time also pray that Mike will be stabilized and able to come off the respirator and his lungs will remain healthy during this process. He is at high risk of pneumonia right now and he needs for those lungs to remain strong and healthy as he continues to battle these illnesses.

Dear Friends, Here is a brief overview of our family at this time:: A very busy year with a call to be Area Family History Advisors for three areas--one in NM and two in Texas - decided to stop teaching at the Institute after last semester - still ordinances workers at Albq. Temple - Attended a Family History Conf. in Mesa, AZ in Jan. - spent a week with Norm and KarAnn in May, went to CA in late May early June to see Heather and Paul and Gayle and Ellen's sister and brother-in-law - went to Dallas in June for Drew's HS graduation - went again in July for Andrew's wedding in Dallas temple - went to SLC for a Family History Advisor Training in July - went on an LDS travel cruise in Oct. to Egypt, Israel, Greece, Croatia, and Venice - went to Sacramento for Thanksgiving with Paul and Gayle in Nov. - drove to Dallas in Dec. to say goodbye to Drew, Keith and Lauri's oldest who is going to Milan, Italy mission - then on to Alabama to see Larene and children - spent a week in the deep south and drove home via Keith and Lauri's - were able to attend the Messiah, Temple devotional, and do and see some of our usual Christmas activities.
One new great grandaughter (three now) Randy and Sheri live here now and we get to see and do a lot of grandparent stuff. We are doing pretty well for old people; We appreciate your friendship over the years and hope all is well with you.

Kenneth Johnson's passing

Beryl and Mel's son Kenny, has passed away. It has been awhile back but I can't get any more information on it. He is the husband of Carol, and father of, Kieth, who preceded him in death, Cara, Glen and Kirk. If anyone has more information that they would like to share it would be appreciated.
