THE UNDAUNTED

This newest Gerald Lund book includes our Grandfather, Mons Larson, and his journey to Arizona. A must read for Boyles. YOu can purchase it at Deseret Book and other LDS book stores and also Walmart has it.
The journey was impossible. But they had no other choice.
At the call of their prophet, they left well-established farms and businesses to strike out yet again into the untamed wilderness. A small band of men, women, and children formed the 1879 pioneer company.
Their mission: stand as a buffer between lawlessness and civilization.Their road: only what they created themselves, blasting out a perilous trail over slick rock and through desolate cliffs.

Pat Boyle Mission Pics

I have been scanning Pat's slides from his time in the Army (Europe), his mission (Southern States), etc. I haven't organized them or named them properly yet, let alone come close to scanning all of them yet. But I wanted to share them with everyone. Please feel free to help me name any of the locations or people properly!

Who is Dave Boyle, filmmaker?

Shermie Oyler Dorsey sent this to me:

I was over at Dad’s (Oylers) house tonight and he had cut an article from the newspaper about a filmmaker from Mesa Arizona . He wants to know who he belongs to. His name is Dave Boyle, he is 27 years old, he is from Mesa , served a mission in Australia and attended BYU. The name of the movie is “White on Rice” and it has garnered some very positive press. Do you know who he is and who he belongs to??

Pictures from negatives

My mother had these two negatives in our family album for as long as I can remember. I decided to see who the people were in these pictures that my mom saved for all those years. Here they are.
I have zoomed in on this and it looks like Uncle Red. Imagine climbing a Saguaro!

In this picture, I recognize Uncle Floyd with his arm around a woman that may be Kay, his wife in her younger years but I have never seen a picture of her at that age. The other woman with her arm around Floyd's neck looks like Aunt Edna, grandma's sister. I am pretty sure Aunt Tootie is second from the right and maybe that is her cousin Blenna with her. Some of the little girls may be Edna's. If you can recognize anyone please let me know. ~Betsy

Chris Boyle, son of Ray and Dana

Our son Chris is in the Army reserves. He just graduated from basic training on June 26th. He is in AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Ft. Jackson South Carolina doing Diesel mechanics. He will graduated from there in September. We are not sure what will happen after that, but we think he may be getting married before they send him to Afghanistan. But now knowing the army that could all change before he's done. If you have any questions or need more information, please let me know. His fiancee, Autumn, went with us to graduation and while we were there we all went to the temple and took pictures.

Boyle Carter Larson Album (see family links)

Betsy, I couldn’t stop looking at the old pictures. Those of Orson in Siberia are amazing! At least they dressed them warmly enough. I always wondered how a farm boy from Lehi fared in Siberia. --Jeaneen

Update on Pic

Well, I should have checked with my sweet husband before posting. He remnded me that, "YES" Dick Oyler had been in the Navy - that is how he and Sis met!

I also received a reply from my friends serving a mission in SoCal. They write: "Karen, yes that is Dick Oyler. He gave a talk at the FHE held on base for the singles. Talked with him for just a little. His experience at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th 1941 touched us all. He got emotional telling about the death of his friend stationed in an area of the ship that had also been his station until shortly before the attack. Small world isn't it."

It is indeed a small world.

Does Anyone Know?

Did Dick Oyler serve in the Navy and was he at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked?

A couple from SJ is serving a mission in Southern Cal and they sent me a note and a couple pages with pictures for the holiday. In one of the pictures is a man --- who looks remarkably like Dick Oyler --- identified only as "Navy - Pearl Harbor Survivor."

I've sent a note off to the Patterson's to ask about the man's identity but it sure does look like him and I'm hoping someone here can provide feedback on whether it is in fact Dick Oyler in the picture.
